Dog Day Afternoon down by the riverside

Radio station Mix 96.5’s Dog Day Afternoon event will be held again this year at the Salvage Station at 466 Riverside Drive in Asheville on Saturday, September 15 from noon to 4m. A portion of the day’s proceeds will go to the Asheville Humane Society, Mountain Pet Rescue, and Boxer Butts and Other Mutts.

There will once again be a pet parade in which kids can proudly show-off their family pooch. And those who think their mutt has a memorable mug can enter him/her in the Asheville’s Ugliest Mug contest. While the judges are deliberating, and before, and after, there will be lots of takeaways and treats from the doggie village. There will also be doggie contests, games, vendors of all things pet, food and beer.

Perhaps the most memorable event of the day will be an appearance by the nationally famous Canines in the Clouds. This pack of dogs, all rescues, have performed from coast to coast and border to border, amazing spectators with both their airborne and landborne feats. But even the Canines in the Clouds might be upstaged by Miss Butterworth, Asheville’s most famous rescue dog. Once a famous resident of the Asheville Humane Society, she will make a triumphant return with her forever parents.

Dog Day Afternoon visitors who have questions about almost anything pet can get answers from members of the A-B Tech Canine University. Want to know about training, nutrition, new pet products?
Heard about CBD oils blended especially for dogs but aren’t sure they’re right for your pal? You can get the information you need from the A-B Tech experts.

All Dog Day Afternoon long, rescue volunteers will be walking adoptable dogs around the Salvage Station grounds to meet, greet and impress event visitors. If all goes well, some of them will find a forever home that afternoon. Salvage Station is Asheville’s new favorite riverfront bar, restaurant, concert hall, and special events venue. Its location in the historic River Arts District along the French Broad River makes it a great place for a family-friendly, pet-friendly event. Large, sweeping open areas of grass and multiple viewpoints from the waterfront location provide a perfect venue for Dog Day Afternoon.

Presenting sponsor Prestige Subaru will be there to provide a chance to experience the 2019 Subaru Ascent. The car features standard symmetrical all-wheel drive, and is now with available “New Dog Smell” from Subaru’s friends at Asheville Humane Society.

Tickets for Dog Day Afternoon are just $8 at the entrance. Kids under 10 and all dogs get in free. For more information, visit mix965.com or ashevillehumane.org.
